ENTRY44 LAST UPDATE: 10/02/92
Subject: Corrections to Remote OS/2 V2 Installation Using TCP/IP
2
Item 36338 Document ID Q585794
The IBM ITSC "red" book titled 'OS/2 Version 2.0 Remote Installation
and Maintenance', GG24-3780-00, includes a chapter describing how to
use IBM TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 and NFS for remote installation of
OS/2 Version 2.0 systems. When using the TCP/IP procedures described
in this manual for remote OS/2 installation, please note the following:
1. When using NFS on OS/2 Version 2.0 systems, the NFS200.IFS
statement must be used. Update the CONFIG.SYS sample,
included on Page 43 in the Remote Installation manual,
from "IFS=\NFS.IFS" to "IFS=\NFS200.IFS".
2. The basic NFSRFI.CMD file, shown on Page 44 in the Remote
Installation manual, may not have all of the necessary
parameters for the ifconfig and mount commands. For
example, your IP network may use subnet masking, which
would require the netmask parameter in the ifconfig
command. Also, the mount command options may be different
when using NFS servers on other platforms.
3. The DISKPREP.CMD program, located on the diskette included
with the Remote Installation manual, is incorrect. The
DISKPREP.CMD program documented on Page 164 of the Remote
Installation manual shows the correct syntax, but the actual
DISKPREP.CMD program on the diskette is NOT correct. Change
the ":colon" to ":" around lines 88 to 92 as per the following
examples:
spath'\disk_1\fdisk /delete:all /disk:1 'rdir
spath'\disk_1\fdisk /file:'spath'\fdsk.dat 'rdir

ENTRY43 LAST UPDATE: 10/02/92
Subject: CSD for Base Kit Installation Instructions
When installing the Base Kit CSD update, please review the following
instructions to ensure the updated modules have been successfully
installed:
1. Review the instructions in the file named BASECSD.DOC.
2. Make sure you stop all TCP/IP applications, including INETD.
3. The CNTRL.EXE file cannot easily be replaced. This file is started
through a RUN command in CONFIG.SYS, and you will be required to
REM (ie. comment out) out the CNTRL.EXE statement in CONFIG.SYS
prior to starting BASECSD.CMD. After installing the CSD, remove
the REM from CONFIG.SYS and reboot your system. The procedure
procedure will also allow the TCPIPDLL.DLL to be installed, it
cannot be installed when it is in use.
4. The BASECSD.CMD install utility copies the INET.SYS and IFNDIS.SYS
files into the IBMCOM directory of the boot drive. If you have more
than one IBMCOM directory, you MUST manually copy these two files
into each of the IBMCOM directories. Also, the BASECSD.CMD install
utility searches for the first IBMCOM directory, starting with the
C, D then E drive. For example, if you booted from the E drive,
3
Item 36338 Document ID Q585794
and an IBMCOM directory is installed on the D drive, BASECSD.CMD
updates only the D drive. You must manually copy INET.SYS and
IFNDIS.SYS to the E drive.

ENTRY42 LAST UPDATE: 10/02/92
Subject: How to Obtain NetBIOS V1.0.1 for TCP/IP Electronically
An IBM Systems Engineer can issue the following commands from their
VM system to obtain the updated NetBIOS V1.0.1 for TCP/IP for OS/2
product:
REQUEST NETCSD FROM OS2TCPIP AT RALVMM
Customers can obtain the CSD update for NetBIOS for TCP/IP through
the IBM Support Center. See ENTRY41 below for instructions.
<=====================================================================>
ENTRY41 LAST UPDATE: 10/02/92
Subject: NetBIOS for TCP/IP Requires Update for TCP/IP V1.2.x for OS/2
The NetBIOS for TCP/IP for OS/2 product, also known as TCP/NetBIOS,
requires a Corrective Service Diskette (CSD) update to run with either
IBM TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 or TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2. To obtain the
CSD update for TCP/NetBIOS, contact the IBM Support Center, TCP/IP
Level 2 Support, and create a problem report. The IBM Support Center
will then mail an updated TCP/NetBIOS diskette to the customer. The
CSD update can also be obtained electronically - see ENTRY42 above.
NetBIOS V1.0.1 for TCP/IP for OS/2 provides support for TCP/IP V1.2.1
for OS/2 and TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2.
<=====================================================================>
ENTRY40 LAST UPDATE: 10/02/92
Subject: Some Common Problems Fixed by the TCP/IP V1.2.1 CSDs
There are several common problems in the TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 level
code, that are fixed by the current Corrective Service Diskettes.
Here is a list of the more common problems:
1. On OS/2 Version 2.0 systems, the X Windows server may display
some erroneous screen data. To resolve this problem apply the
X Windows Server Kit UB02205 CSD (or higher), which is
described in ENTRY31 below.
2. Using the REXEC client to remotely start AIXTERM sessions or
other X Windows client applications takes several minutes.
To resolve this problem apply the X Windows Server Kit UB02205 CSD
(or higher), described in ENTRY31 below.
3. When running the TELNET.EXE client, the OS/2 system utilization
becomes excessive, as indicated by the OS/2 V2.0 PULSE utility.
To resolve this problem apply the Base Kit UB02274 CSD (or higher),
which is described in ENTRY37 below.
4
Item 36338 Document ID Q585794
4. When running TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 and NetWare Services for OS/2
concurrently on the same system, and using the ODINSUP utility for
ODI driver support for Ethernet LAN adapters, the system will hang.
This problem only occurs when using Ethernet LAN adapters and is
resolved in the the Base Kit UB02252 CSD (or higher), which is
described in ENTRY35 below.
5. When running ROUTED for IP routing, and using one or more Ethernet
LAN adapters, a "route is timing out for interface x" message will
occur and IP routing will stop. To resolve this problem apply the
Base Kit UB02252 CSD (or higher), which is described in ENTRY35
below.
6. When running ROUTED for IP routing, and using one or more Ethernet
LAN adapters, a "route is timing out for interface x" message will
occur and IP routing will stop. To resolve this problem apply the
Base Kit UB02252 CSD (or higher), which is described in ENTRY35
below.
<=====================================================================>
ENTRY39 LAST UPDATE: 09/30/92
Subject: New PMANT and TN3270 Externalized Translate Table Capability
Support for specifying external ASCII/EBCIDC translation table has been
added to TN3270 and PMANT in the UB02274 Base Kit CSD for TCP/IP V1.2.1
for OS/2. This is supported by the following files:
\tcpip\bin\tn3270.exe
\tcpip\bin\pmant.exe
\tcpip\etc\3278xlt.sam (sample translate table)
Both TN3270 and PMANT have the following syntax for specifying a
translate table.
If the translate_table_file_name does not contain the full path then
the application will search the ETC directory.
If the -tx option is not specified, the application will use the file
3278XLT.TBL in ETC directory. Thus if you want to use a particular
translate table most of the time, you should copy your translate table
file to 3270XLT.TBL in your ETC directory. If the file 3278XLT.TBL does
not exist, the application will use the default US translate table
internal to the application.
3278XLT.SMP is shipped as an example and contains the US ASCII/EBCDIC
translations. The format of the translation table is the same as that
of IBM TCP/IP for VM. Thus TN3270 and PMANT can use a translation table
downloaded form IBM TCP/IP for VM.
<=====================================================================>

ENTRY31 LAST UPDATE: 07/29/92
Subject: TCP/IP V1.2.1 X Windows Server Kit CSD Released (UB02205)
A new X Windows Server Kit CSD, UB02205, was released for TCP/IP V1.2.1
for OS/2 on 7/29/92. This CSD includes X Windows Server 1.2.1.3 and
includes an information file named README.1ST. The PMX CSD includes
the following updates:
Version 1.2.1.3 - July 22, 1992 - This version fixes several
problems: For OS/2 2.0, there was interference between REXEC and PMX.
This has been worked around by giving PMX a higher priority class.
ICCCM conventions are observed for the minimum and maximum sizes of
windows. Z order bugs are fixed. Some changes were made which should
fix a number of problems to do with task list entries. However, not
all reported problem situations could be tested for.
Version 1.2.1.2 - July 13, 1992 - This fixes a problem with PM heap
overflow that affected several users, and fixes a problem with the
sequence maximize-minimize-restore. There are also more fixes for the
Japanese keyboard. Some sloppiness of positioning of the application
within the PM frame is also fixed for some applications.
Version 1.2.1.1 - June 24, 1992 - This fixes the keyboard mapping
problem that was in the previous version. It was seen if you ran
xmodmap (or xinit.cmd). A bitmap related problem also is fixed.
Version 1.2.1.03 - June 19, 1992 - This version fixes a number of
problems with 1.2.1. Also focus handling is MUCH closer to normal PM
focus handling. If you click on a client area, the window will come
to the top, for example. In 1.2.1 if you closed a window and the next
window that had focus happened to be a OS/2 command window or an
aixterm window, that window had the keyboard locked. This is now
fixed. Support for Japanese keyboards is more correct. We found it
was necessary to turn off PM support for double byte mode, so that the
X application could see the correct keystrokes. A menu problem with
Interleaf has been corrected.

Subject: Limitations When Using NFS Client with OS/2 Version 2.0
When using the NFS client in TCP/IP V1.2.1 on systems running
OS/2 Version 2.0, there are two limitations:
1. You cannot use the "Drives" icon to look at NFS mounted file
systems. Although an icon representing NFS mounted drives
appears in the "drives" icon view, double-clicking on the icon
does not successfully open the drive window.
2. You cannot drag a file from a local drive icon and drop it on an
NFS mounted drive icon. The result of this action is that an empty
file, with length=0 and the correct filename, is created on the
target drive.

Subject: New TCP/IP V1.2.1 Refresh Replaces TCP/IP V1.2
TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 became generally available in October, 1991.
The announcement letter indicated support for OS/2 Version 2. This
support is included in a TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 refresh, named
TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2, which incorporates all previous CSD updates,
the fixes required to run with OS/2 Version 2.0, improved installation
utilities and updated publications. The TCP/IP V1.2.1 refresh is
currently available. Please see ENTRY24 above for details on how
TCP/IP V1.2 customers can obtain a free upgrade to TCP/IP V1.2.1.
NOTE that you CANNOT upgrade to TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 by just
applying the TCP/IP V1.2 CSDs, you MUST obtain the upgraded
TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 package and reinstall the product.
The TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 refresh is also available on the OS2PROD
tools disk. There are also 4 revised publications and a new LAPS
publication available in LIST3820 and BookManager form from OS2PROD.
The TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 software on the OS2PROD tools disk does
NOT include the Kerberos API software that is part of Programmer's
Tool kit. This is because the Kerberos API includes DES encryption,
and this function cannot be exported outside of the USA. However,
all USA "shrink wrap" versions (ie. not electronically delivered)
include the Kerberos API support.
An IBM Systems Engineer can issue the following commands from their
VM system to obtain the TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 refresh:
EXEC TOOLS SENDTO KGNVMZ PCPROD OS2PROD GET <package> PACKAGE
17

as the the package name. The TCP121 package only includes the 5
TCP/IP publications in BookManager format. You must request the
TCPDOC package separately for the 5 publications in LIST3820
format. The TCPBASE package is a prerequisite for all other
packages. TCPBASE is included in the TCP121 package. Use
3.5" 2MB diskettes formatted to 1.44MB to load the packages.

ENTRY12 LAST UPDATE: 05/04/92
Subject: Problems Running TCP/IP V1.2 on OS/2 Version 2.0
There are known problems when running TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2, released
October 1991, with OS/2 Version 2.0. The CSD updates, referenced in
ENTRY03, can be used until a copy of TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 can be
obtained. Please reference ENTRY13 and ENTRY04 for information on
TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 support on OS/2 Version 2.0 and the TCP/IP V1.2.1
refresh. Some known problems when running TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 on
systems running OS/2 Version 2.0 include:
1. Ethernet NDIS support does not work on IBM Ethernet/A,
3Com and Western Digital LAN adapters.
2. The X Windows server has some small errors.
3. SLIP does not work.
4. The NFS client and server do not work properly.
5. The TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 documentation does not include
installation and coexistence instructions for Extended Services

ENTRY11 LAST UPDATE: 04/15/92
Subject: Mounting the OS/2 NFS Server from UNIX Based TCP/IP Hosts
When mounting the OS/2 NFS server from a UNIX based operating systems,
you MUST specify a Read and Write buffer size that is less than 7168
bytes. The default value in the mount command for most UNIX systems
is 8192 bytes. The TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 Installation and Maintenance
manual, page 106, recommends using 4092 bytes for the Read and Write
buffer sizes.

ENTRY10 LAST UPDATE: 04/09/92
Subject: Information on X Windows Server Pseudo Color Support
PMX Version 1.2.04 includes support for modifiable color tables, or
pseudo color support. There are three terms that you may see in
discussions of color support: color visuals, color maps, and color
tables. In X Window System terminology, "color visuals" specify the
types and possible depths of color maps that are supported by a specific
server and display adapter combination. For example, a particular
display adaptor may have a 5 bit deep visual with only 32 gray scale
colors and both a 4 bit deep color visual with 16 colors, and an 8 bit
deep color visuals with 256 colors. In X terms a "color map" is a
specific table containing specific colors that can be used in drawing
in a window. These are called "color tables" in Presentation Manager.
There are two color visuals supported by PMX, StaticColor and
PseudoColor. In each case the visuals are only screen deep. That is,
if a display supports 256 colors, the tables PMX supports are always 256
colors in size.
The simpler StaticColor table cannot have its colors changed. In X terms
there is only one such table available, and it contains the colors that
are in the default physical color table of the display. If the screen
is EGA or VGA it has 16 colors and is 4 bits deep. If the screen is
8514, XGA, or Image Adaptor it has 256 color and is 8 bits deep.
Presentation Manager (and therefore PMX) supports this type of color
table for all displays.
Presentation Manager and PMX also supports modifiable color tables. This
type of "visual" is called a PseudoColor visual in X. This type of color
table is supported by Presentation Manager for the 8514, XGA and Image
Adaptor display adaptors. This type of color table is called a
"realizable" color table. For this type of table, if the application
selects it, it can allocate colors in the default PseudoColor color
table until it has no more room for colors, and it may create new
PseudoColor color tables whose contents the application may control.
19
Item 36338 Document ID Q585794
If the user does not specify on the PMX command that a specific type of
color table is to be used, then PMX queries Presentation Manager to see
if the display supports PseudoColor. Based on that information, either
PseudoColor or StaticColor is the only type supported by PMX by default.
If the user knows that the display device driver really does support
"realizable color tables" he may specify "-pseudocolor" on the PMX
command. This will override what PM tells PMX. In the case of some
Image Adaptor device drivers, this is necessary, since they do not tell
Presentation Manager that they in fact do support realizable color
tables.

ENTRY09 LAST UPDATE: 04/02/92
Subject: List of New Functions Included in TCP/IP CSDs
Several new functions have been added to TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 since
the announcement letter, documentation and Generally Available code
distribution. To use these new functions, please apply the current
CSD updates to the Base and X Windows kits. The new functions are:
1. LPR/LPD have been enhanced and support has been added to
receive special parameters from clients in the control file.
These parameters are then placed into the appropriate printer
parameter fields. This allows direct manipulation of Queue,
Spooler and Network parameters.
When LPD receives control file entries of the following formats,
the information associated with these entries are placed in the
corresponding Print Job fields. See documentation on
"SplQmOpen()" for additional information.
Parameter Print Job field
----------- ---------------
--Q<params> QueueProcParams
--S<params> SpoolerParams
--N<params> NetworkParams
--?<params> QueueProcParams ( where ? != 'N|Q|S')
-<params> QueueProcParams
-<-params> QueueProcParams
For example, to have LPR send the file CONFIG.SYS to the default
printer server, default queue, and print 2 copies, you would enter:
lpr -b config.sys --QCOP=2
Refer to the documentation for your particular queue, spooler, and
network drivers for parameters and their meaning.
2. The current CSD release of the X Windows server, Version 1.2.04
or PMX V1.2.04, now supports modifiable color tables, or pseudo
color support. The modifiable color table facilities are ON by
default, however, by specifying -static the X Windows server will
20
Item 36338 Document ID Q585794
use static color tables. PMX automatically uses the modifiable
color tables of Presentation Manager (PM), if PM has set the bit
that indicates the display device driver supports it. The results
are that you will see colors on the screen change, if the X
applications you use change the colors on the screen. PMX will
reset the colors back to normal when it exits. Also, if you switch
to a full screen session and back to PM, PM will recalculate its
colors so that everything is back to approximately normal, given
the limitations on what is now in the physical color table.
Presentation Manager will also do this when the user selects
the "refresh" option on the PMX server "command" menu.
3. The X Windows server now provides National Language Support (NLS),
and subsequent support for non-USA keyboards. The keyboard
handling has been changed to be identical to that for the RS/6000
or the Xstation keyboards. That is, the XMODMAP files that modify
how the keyboard is treated for the RS6000 can also be used with
PMX without change. Note that if you have old XMODMAP files, for
versions of PMX previous to 1.2.02, they may NO LONGER WORK.

Subject: DIR or LS Output Incorrect from FTP Client to AS/400 FTP Server
When using the TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 FTP client to an AS/400 FTP server,
the output from DIR or LS commands to list directory files does not
display correctly. The output is readable but the columns do not line
up properly. AS/400 TCP/IP has a closed APAR, SA20844, to add CRLF
(Carriage Return, Line Feed) when its FTP server is responding to a
DIR or LS command. The AS/400 FTP server was only sending LF and this
caused problems with the FTP clients in TCP/IP V2.0 for DOS and
TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2. Please contact the IBM Support Center to get
the appropriate PTF for AS/400 TCP/IP.

SUMMARY OF PMX RELEASE FIXES:
-----------------------------
Version 1.2.04 - 19 March 1992, Fixed program checks found in previous
version. Fixed problem with very long font lookup
time, seen with AIX 3.2 aixterm. Refresh option of
server command menu causes PM to refresh windows, not
just X. This causes PM to recalculate colors of its
windows in terms of PMXs latest color map.
Version 1.2.03 - 18 March 1992, Fixed glitches in 1.2.02 keyboard
support. 106 key keyboard added. ICCCM support
added, mainly for location of windows. Size and
location of menus improved. Color table support for
"pseudocolor visuals". Color support for cursors
added.
Version 1.2.02 - 5 March 1992, Added non-USA keyboard support. Fixed
min/max/restore problems of 1.2.01 version. Many
other less obvious fixes. Xmodmap fix. Xset fix.
Fixed return code problem in pmxwait.
Version 1.2.01 - 18 December 1991, Fixed "hole in screen" problem.

ENTRY06 LAST UPDATE: 03/06/92
Subject: MVSLOGIN, MVSLOGUT, SHOWATTR Commands for MVS/DFP NFS Server
The MVSLOGIN, MVSLOGUT and SHOWATTR commands, shipped with MVS/DFP and
used by TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 to access the MVS NFS server, do NOT work
with TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2. They do, however, work with the previous
TCP/IP V1.1 for OS/2 release. This problem was fixed in MVS/DFP
APAR OY50604, which provides MVSLOGIN, MVSLOGUT and SHOWATTR command
support for IBM TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2. Please contact the IBM Support
Center to get the PTF for APAR OY50604 which will provide new MVSLOGIN,
MVSLOGUT and SHOWATTR modules.
You can use the MVSLOGIN and MVSLOGUT commands shipped with TCP/IP
V1.2 for OS/2 as long as you follow the SET procedure described in
ENTRY05 below. Note that you MUST follow this SET procedure even with
the updated MVSLOGIN and MVSLOGUT modules from OY50604. For the
SHOWATTR command to work, you MUST get OY50604.

ENTRY05 LAST UPDATE: 03/06/92
Subject: UID and GID Value -2 When Mounting MVS NFS server
When accessing an IBM MVS NFS server, the UID and GID values must be
set to -2. This applies to both the NFS server included with IBM
TCP/IP V1 for MVS and the NFS server function included with the MVS/DFP
that works in conjunction with IBM TCP/IP V2 for MVS. If the UID
and GID values are not -2, then you will receive the error message:
sysb returned error 22: error 0.
when attempting to issue the MVSLOGIN command. Note that the NFS
24
Item 36338 Document ID Q585794
MOUNT command may be successful even if you do NOT specify -2 for
UID and GID. To resolve this problem, you must set the UID and GID
values using the OS/2 SET command. The UID and GID values MUST be
set as described here even though this information is NOT documented
in the TCP/IP V1.1 for OS/2 or TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 manuals. It
applies to both the NFS server included with MVS TCP/IP V1 and the
NFS server in MVS DFP.
Please type the following two commands prior to issuing the
MOUNT or MVSLOGIN command:
set unix.uid=-2
set unix.gid=-2
Note that these two commands can be included in CONFIG.SYS so that you
do NOT have to issue them prior to accessing the MVS NFS server. Then
issue the MOUNT and MVSLOGIN commands using the following examples:
mount x: sysb:myuserid,text,crlf
mvslogin sysb myuserid
This mount example mounts the MVS system as text, with carriage return
and line feeds, which is needed for editing text files. You should
specify BINARY instead of TEXT, when accessing load modules. An example
for binary or executable files is:
mount y: mvstcp:myuserid,binary

ENTRY04 LAST UPDATE: 06/02/92
Subject: Service Registration Form Information
Please review the READ.ME file, included with the TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2
Base kit, for instructions on how to complete the Service Registration
Form. The TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 package does NOT include a Service
Registration Number. Just leave this field blank. The READ.ME file
contains the mailing address for the Service Registration Form.
The customer should fill out the form with their name and address.
Leave the registration number blank so when TCP/IP Development releases
a CSD or code refresh the customer can be contacted. A refresh of
TCP/IP V1.2 for OS/2 is currently planned for May 29th, 1992. This
update will be called TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2 and will include all
previous CSD updates, the fixes required to run with OS/2 Version 2.0,
improved installation tools and updated publications.
All TCP/IP V1.2 users that have mailed in their Service Registration
form will receive a letter indicating that they can receive a free
upgrade to TCP/IP V1.2.1 for OS/2. See ENTRY24 above for details.
